Long COVID Treatmentapy

Most people who have Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) recover completely within a few weeks. But some people — even those who had mild versions of the disease — continue to experience symptoms after their initial recovery. People experiencing Long COVID (also know as COVID Long Haulers or Post-COVID-19 Syndrome) can be impacted beyond their lingering physical symptoms.

The most common physical signs and symptoms that linger over time include:

  • Fatigue

  • Shortness of breath

  • Cough

  • Joint pain

  • Chest pain

Other long-term signs and symptoms may include:

  • Muscle pain or headache

  • Fast or pounding heartbeat

  • Loss of smell or taste

  • Rash or hair loss

  • Sleep problems

Cognitive Changes

People experiencing Long COVID, report problems with memory, concentration and describe a "brain fog" that has developed over time since their illness. These changes can impact ability to participate in daily actives, school and work and can have a significant impact on their mental health.

Mental Health

The psychosocial impact of experiencing this illness and its lingering symptoms can place considerable stress on the individual and their family.  In some cases, people experience anxiety related to their change in health status which may be impacting their employment or education status, relationship status, and evoke fears and worries about the future.

Due to isolation, loss and trauma related to to their diagnosis, It is understandable that some people experience depression, with symptoms of hopelessness, and may feel "stuck" in limbo between their pre-COVID level of health and this new post-COVID version of themselves.
